Hikoi Motuhake 2015
In 2015, our akonga who have studied BMM will be given the opportunity to travel to Tahiti and Hawaii. The research project was initiated in 2011. The focus of our travels is to understand our relationship with our whanaunga of Te Moana nui a Kiwa, their stories, tikanga and language. What we also hope to do is track the story of Kupe and his journey from the Islands to Aotearoa and back again.
This research project will be completed in 2016, though akonga may continue onto their Masters.
The cost of carrying out this research will range between $4-5k per akonga. This costing is only for
accommodation, car rentals and a portion for food. Each akonga is expected to pay for their own airline tickets which will cost an additional $5k.
The end result of this research project is that the research, including the work your whanau member has carried out during the course of their studies, will be gifted back to you and your whanau.
We are asking you to sponsor your whanau member so that they fulfill their research project.
Bachelor of Matauranga Maori
The three-year, full-time degree programme was a response to concerns raised by many marae across the nation. These marae identified a need to create a knowledge base to sustain the specialised tikanga practices and kawa of individual marae.
The Bachelor of Mātauranga Māori is a unique degree aimed at students who have gained competency in te reo after completing the Community Education or Te Pouhono bridging programmes (or similar), or who have spent a significant part of their life on a marae.
The programme sought to provide students with the confidence to take up their roles on the marae and in other public or private spheres. This approach is aimed at supporting the marae of the region, and the wider community. At the same time, it will draw upon marae and community expertise so that knowledge is systematically passed on to the next generation.
We are asking you to sponsor your whanau member so that they fulfill their research project.
